I am semi-retired but do manage my own consulting business on a part-time basis. I consult in all areas of human resources management, I am an executive coach and I facilitate executive meetings focused on business strategy, execution and problem resolution. The name of my company is Rust Management Consulting, Inc.
I have my dream job. How could a job be any better? I have a flexible schedule, can stay up late reading a good book and then sleep-in the next morning. And yet, I continue to work on challenging assignments with smart people and, more importantly, I assist people in their career and personal growth and development. What a personally satisfying dream job I have.
I put the top down on my convertible and drive until I get lost, then use my wits and my compass to find my way back. I read a lot—the newspaper, books, both fiction and non-fiction, especially history books; I garden and grow flowers and tomatoes. Most importantly though I love spending time doing almost anything or nothing with my family - especially my new grandchild who was born seven weeks ago!
It would be easier to say what I don’t like, which is; I don’t like opera, heavy metal or rap. Otherwise I enjoy classical, rock and roll, country and just about everything else. However, showing my age, my favorite music is from the big band era, especially The Glenn Miller Orchestra. Their music always puts me “in the mood”.
I am a news nut. I watch Fox news much of the day, never miss the local 10 o’clock news and particularly enjoy news magazine shows such as “Dateline,” “60 Minutes” and “20/20.” Sometimes though, I turn the channel and watch “Grey’s Anatomy,” “Two and a Half Men” and “Brothers and Sisters.” Frankly, there isn’t much on TV these days worth watching.
“Gone with the Wind,” “Titanic,” “Ben Hur,” “Sleepless in Seattle,” “Lord of the Rings” Trilogy, “Something’s Gotta Give,” “Driving Miss Daisy,” “The Passion of the Christ,” “The Notebook,” “Patton” and on and on. I love to watch good movies.
That when I was a teenager I was arrested for pelting the front of the city hall in my home town with eggs.
The Lion King. I have seen it three times and believe it is the best, most creative play I’ve ever seen. It combines humor, drama, sadness, majesty, villains, heroes and heroines with a tremendous message for all the ages.
Mamma Mia! Now I want to see the movie. It is an up-beat, feel good play that makes you smile. Prior to the opening of the P.A.C. I had season tickets at the Weidner Center in Green Bay for thirteen years and have seen so many great plays I have trouble remembering them all.
The show would be Footloose. I would want to play the role of Ren, who showed great leadership in his “rebellion” to get the school administration to allow the kids to have a dance. The music in Footloose was great! It made me want to join the dancers on the stage, or at least get up and dance at my seat. It was truly a “feel good” play that made me leave the theater upbeat and happy.
Yes, High School Musical. My wife and I wanted to see what all the kids were so excited about and decided to see the show. I was expecting a “dorky” kids show but wound up truly enjoying the music and the message. The best part of seeing this play was watching the kids in the audience sing along with every song. I could tell this clean, wholesome musical was truly impacting the younger generation in a very positive way.
Blast II was a disappointment for me. I saw Blast and was awed by the music and the performance of the band members, the lighting, the choreography, and the way the entire theater was used to highlight each portion of the show. Blast II just didn’t live up to the first Blast, particularly in the performance of the band members, which was not nearly as interactive with the audience as had been the original. The energy in Blast II just wasn’t there.
