The first item on many agendas when traveling to New York is a Broadway show, but which theater should you choose? “Broadway” theaters geographically sit between 41st Street and 54th Street and between Sixth Avenue and Eighth Avenue. But seriously, can all of the 100+ theaters in New York fit only in that area?

The last, but certainly not least, Tony® Award nominee for Best Musical is bringing disco to the Broadway stage.

Leading up to the Tony® Awards June 12, let’s take a closer look at the four nominees for Best Musical. The first nomination takes us to Africa on a mission with a performance that is currently drawing standing room only crowds.

The equivalent of other great broadcasted award shows, the Tony Awards began in 1947 to celebrate excellence in theater. A household name for actors and theater lovers, a Tony is a stage actor’s Holy Grail. But exactly who is this Tony?

With so many Broadway openings this spring, there is surely something for everyone. I am personally a musical fan, and there are many titles that I would jump at the chance to see. Classic, provocative, heartwarming, comedic – the wide variety of new shows prove that there is never a dull moment in the bright lights of Broadway.

Anything Goes – Opened: April 7

Beauty and the Beast was Disney’s first animated film to hit the Broadway stage in 1994. It played on Broadway for 13 years, until it closed in July 2007. The show was a great success and set a high standard for other Disney film to stage transformations. An international sensation, Beauty and the Beast has played in 21 different countries and is currently in Rome, Tokyo and now playing at the Fox Cities P.A.C.!

When one show closes on Broadway, it makes room for another to open. I have to admit that some goodbyes are sad, but I am extremely excited for the fresh new arrivals.
